Cross My Heart and Hope To Spy by Ally Carter

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (Gallagher Girls, #2)Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter

This was taken from goodreads.com/jess_readerwriter, I wrote the review freely and I apologize if the reviews are not written in a professional manner.

Synopsis: At first, giddy anticipation is in the air. Gallagher Academy, Cammie's elite spy school, is hosting a visit from the Ethan Frome Academy, a covert training center for boys. Soon after the boys' arrival, though, everything goes dangerously awry when a series of security breaches are discovered at the academy. Worse yet, teenage agent-in-training Cammie is being blamed for the penetration. With the school's top-secret status at risk, the Gallagher Girls have to work quickly to save their beloved school. Girl sleuths with nice asides on youthful crushes.

My rating: 4 stars of 5
Enjoyable story, just not 5 star worthy

My computer just made me retype my review. That was probably God's way of saying "You are an absolutely terrible reviewer. Start over." So, that's what I shall do.

Most people I talk to about these books think, "That looks really stupid" or "Is that book for middle schoolers?" Well, back when I was reading the series for the first time, yeah, I was still in middle school. The books were a little older for me considering that Cam is a Sophomore. I waited a little too long to read it again, though. . . .

It took me a long time to read this book for some reason so I can't give you a recap when you can already read it in the synopsis. The main points of this book and why I like it shall be listed NOW! Okay, now:

What I liked:

The writing is very good. At least in my opinion it is. I don't find myself annoyed by stupid errors and misplaced commas.

It doesn't jump back and forth from first person to third person. I do know books that do that. Crap, what book was it where they did that? Ah! The Generation Dead series: Passing Strange. I got so confused at some parts (in Passing Strange) that I had no idea whose head I was in! It's in Cammie's perspective which most of you already know considering this is the second book but, I liked how the book was written.

The characters are believeable. Although I feel like I don't know Liz at alllll (in my head, I call her Lizard), I feel like I know Bex a whole helluva lot. I like Bex, her nickname is cute. But Zach, oh Zach. I pictured him as smokin' hot. Actually, he was so believeable that I always caught myself imagining my best friend as him because that's who he reminded me most of.

Boy advice was fantastic. I loved how Macey is really coming into play throughout the series. She is giving more of her advice on boys and it's just too cute and most of it is true! I end up trying to translate boys all the time and most of the time I'm wrong but my friends always give me advice and it's just like what Macey says.

Ally Carter writes as a teenager very well. Sometimes authors lose their characters, I feel. Like, sometimes they'll make them too old with marriage and stuff (Twilight) or too young where "bitch" is a bad word. Which happened in the first book. This book played the whole teenager part off very well and Cammie sounded just like one of my own friends.

Most reviews consist of pros and cons of a book. I don't really think it's nessecary to look at the bad aspects of it but look more toward what is best about it since there are more good things than bad in this book.

Ally Carter knows what she's doing and even though the covers are kind of young looking, I'm going to continue to read the series.
