Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

This was taken from goodreads.com/jess_readerwriter, I wrote the review freely and I apologize if the reviews are not written in a professional manner.

Synopsis:  Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My rating: 2 stars of 5
Male lead role lacked masculinity
Too long
Cliche plot

Ooooh.. This book..
What can I say about this book..
I wasn't too fond of it AT ALL. Probably due to the fact that I hate books about witches. I saw, "Beautiful Creatures" and assumed maybe it'd be a new type of race.

Did anyone notice how Ethan is more feminine than I am? I mean, the only time I EVER saw a little masculinity (If that's a word) was when Ridley was around and he couldn't help but stare. I even had this problem where when i'd describe the book, i'd call Ethan a she..

I hated Ethan's nickname for Lena. L. Just L. Couldn't we think of something better than the first letter of her name?

A lot of things were cliche in this book. Book Of Moons? What's up with everyone and cresent moons? UGH.

Sarafine.. She was just classic evil chick. Corset, gothic looking, yada yada..

There are just so many things about this book that I hate so, tell me, why am I reading the sequel..?

  1. i don't get why they've made it into a film, when other books are so much better. In the sequel (beautiful darkness) Lena is such a b****. She is really nasty. Maybe the film can make lena nicer and Ethan less feminine...

  2. Finally an honest book review!! Thank you so much for saying what needs to be said. I read this horribly unrealistic concoction of fluff and mush, pages of needless facts, endless teenage angst narrated by a severely emasculated teen boy. I cringed though the butchery they tried to portray as an ending. They should have let Macon survive and killed Ethan and Lena. Or should I say Ethel and Lena. How could anyone love this book!! What is happening to our youth that we are feeding them this garbage?!!
