The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (Twilight, #3.5)The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

This was taken from goodreads.com/jess_readerwriter, I wrote the review freely and I apologize if the reviews are not written in a professional manner.

Synopsis: Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood... life before she became a vampire.
All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don't draw attention to yourself and, above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn't know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.
Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?

My rating: 4 stars of 5
Slow beginning
No attachment to main character

Finally finished all the Twilight things out there.

You know, I'm not going to be that person that hates the series. Obviously, I love it and once, I was a little obsessed way passed the creepy point (I have Twilight in Thai, Italian, French, Russian, Spanish, and German. I have the original printings, all the "Behind Twilight" books, the Guide and the Unoffical Guides, the movie picture books, graphic novels, two movie posters and Breaking Dawn signed. I met her. Needless to say, creeeeeeperrrrr). I just hate those people that sit there and hate the book either because Stephen King says so or because she uses way too many big words or just because it's popular and you hate mainstream-like things. You know, you liked Twilight in the beginning, back when everyone was still waiting for Breaking Dawn to come out, so don't give me that crap that it's a "terrible book".

What I'm trying to say is: I'm still a huge fan of this series. Even though I'm tired of vampires. I won't sit here and critisize it just because everyone else does.

This book was very short. Obviously because it says "an Eclipse novella" on the front but it actually took me quite a while to finish the book.

We all know Bree, the girl that Carlisle tried to save because she had surrendered but the Volturi took her out anyways. Well, Bree had a story before that.

The book begins with Bree hunting with her new coven or clan or whatever you want to call it. They keep getting in trouble for not cleaning up their messes after feeding time. Riley, their leader, sends them out in groups to hunt. Bree meets Diego, a slightly older vampire. Older than Bree's three month age. Bree and Diego go in a different direction to hunt, getting away from the weirdos in their coven. She begins to trust Diego and hunt with him and become his friend. He shows her that the sun isn't harmful like Riley claimed it was. She began to love him. But then one day, they decided to follow Riley to what they had suspected was her house, Victoria's, and figure out what Riley was up to.

This story shows the lies that Victoria had told everyone and what she had gone through to create her army. We all know how this book ends.

It was interesting to read, to be inside a vampire's mind rather than Bella's for a change. In the beginning, it was a little slow and boring. But once Bree and Diego started piecing things together it got exciting until my brain reminded me that the ending is not a good one.

So overall, with no sugar added: I was a little bored. I feel like I could have enjoyed it more but knowing how the book ended, made it sad as the pages diminished. To be honest, this isn't a necessary read for the Twilight Saga.. I felt it was a little pointless but hey, if you're curious about Bree's life, go for it! Her character was so miniscule in the 3rd book that I just didn't feel any attachment to her in this book. So, I say, read it if you're curious but if you're looking for a brand new story, this isn't the book. But I feel like we all already knew that.
