Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

This was taken from goodreads.com/jess_readerwriter, I wrote the review freely and I apologize if the reviews are not written in a professional manner.

Synopsis: Young Katniss Everdeen has survived the dreaded Hunger Games not once, but twice, but even now she can find no relief. In fact, the dangers seem to be escalating: President Snow has declared an all-out war on Katniss, her family, her friends, and all the oppressed people of District 12.

My rating: 4 stars of 5
Ending felt rushed
New characters
Wonderful epilogue

Let's pretend that me and my best friend are in a fight. I want to make nice with my best friend by asking her stupid questions but she just gives me blunt, short, boring answers that leave me thinking about her answer way more than I should. This is how the book felt to me.

Katniss is now in District 13, living a life that seems like a dictatorship, but with a somewhat all right leader, President Coin. Nothing like Snow. Peeta was captured by the Capitol. President Coin offers Katniss to be the Mockingjay, the face of the rebellion. She accepts, but only under certain conditions. Personally, I feel like this book is quite difficult to sum up without giving away spoilers like crazy. I try to keep it semi-spoiler-free. . . .

Lemme just get to the point of what I thought of it: I didn't like it a whole lot. The beginning was written beautifully and this book kept my attention for so long that I finished it at 5 in the morning (This morning) just so I could finish. Peeta killed me in this book. He made me tear up because I felt like I was Katniss throughout the story. I felt like I could feel her pain. Peeta is different and I don't know what snaps in him but he finally comes back to normal. . . . within the last hundred pages. . . .

Mockingjay clearly made me cry more than all of the other books. A lot of people die and you can almost feel the grief.

I have to give spoilers because I just need to say some things! Most of these are things I cried over.

1. Finnick dies.. I mean really? He became one of my favorite characters. I loved him so much.

2. Prim dies. I didn't even know she died, I had to go back and reread. Towards this part in the book, I began to skim through because I was so tired. When I went back to read it, I cried my eyes out.

3. When they find out Peeta was hijacked/infected with tracker jacker venom and they're not sure he'll ever be the same. I cried everytime he was mean to Katniss. I'm emotional...

4. When Katniss sings the Hanging Tree song that her father used to sing, I believe I memorized the words and cried then, too.

5. When I found out Madge didn't make it out of District 12 alive.

6. When Katniss flipped out on Buttercup and then snuggled with him because he's all she really has left.

7. THISPARTJUSTREALLYPISSEDMEOFF. You don't get to say goodbye to Gale or anything, really. You find out that Gale's bomb was the one that killed Prim. When Katniss is about to assassinate President Snow, as one of her conditions of being the Mockingjay, she kills Coin instead. AS punishment, in a way, Katniss is returned to Victor's Village to live there while Greasy Sae cooks her food and Haymitch lives next door. Greasy Sae tells Katniss that Gale is working in 8 (Or is it 2?) and that's all you hear from him. That's it. He's working somewhere else and YOU CAN'T SEE HIM, HAHAHAHAHA. . . .

The ending of this book was the kicker. I was just so upset that I dreamt of it last night. I didn't want it to end so abruptly. Almost like, she ran out of paper or something and HAD to finish quickly. The epilogue was cute. Unexpected and I was wondering the whole entire time what the childrens names were, but never found out.

It's not like I can say I wish Collins would write a 4th book because I know that it would in no way be possible but I wish I were able to see Peeta act like he loved Katniss more towards the end than have to hear Katniss just talk about it in her head. I just needed more. I guess I'll just be happy with what I got and hope for the best with the movies.
